Nitrogen is an element essential to life on Earth, yet it's excess poses a serious threat to the integrity of ecosystems.
The man-made excess nitrogen in the environment has been a growing problem for flora, fauna, and humans themselves for many years. Meanwhile, policy measures to curb the nitrogen crisis are also causing political turbulence.
This HOOU project compiles and packages teaching materials on the chemistry of nitrogen, utilizing lower and upper secondary school level material. It shows the serious human impact on the natural nitrogen cycle and highlights the role of nitrogen for the urban environment, soil and water quality and climate change.
This course employs a learner-centered approach, combining a review of foundational chemistry concepts with engaging historical context. Learners will explore real-world examples, analyzing the impact of policies and relevant statistics.
