Process engineering for the bioeconomy
Gain an overview of the key processes involved in converting bio-based feedstocks into valuable products for the transition to a bio-based economy.
Go to courseWhat to expect
The bioeconomy is seen as a possible solution to many of the current challenges in the areas of climate, environment and resources. The EU and many other countries have developed goals and strategies to increasingly convert their economies to renewable and bio-based raw materials. What is behind the term, how can fossil-based products currently be replaced by bio-based ones and what processing and conversion methods are available for this? The learning material provides an insight into common processes that are available for the successful implementation of the bioeconomy. It also reports on innovative processes that are still at the beginning of their large-scale use.
Funded by: Federal Ministry of Education and Research
Learning objectives
- Get to know important processes for processing, converting and refining biogenic raw materials
- Overview of interesting aspects of the bioeconomy and the latest research results
Learning method
The individual chapters provide an overview of interesting sub-areas of the bioeconomy with a focus on processes for manufacturing products from bio-based raw materials. Each chapter is self-contained and can be worked through individually. At the end of each chapter there are references to further materials for more in-depth study of the topic. A short quiz at the end ensures that the content learned is reinforced.
