Learn why ethics must be part of the technology development process from the start
Go to courseWhat to expect
The ‘Ethics by Design’ course emphasises the central role of ethics in the development and application of technology. In the course, decisions based on everyday scenarios are made interactively and important topics such as fairness, justice and data protection are discussed in detail. Sensitised to the ethical implications of the development process, we deal with technology differently, just as we eat differently when we know how and with what consequences our food is produced.
Learning objectives
In this course, participants will: (1) Acquire basic knowledge about artificial intelligence and its social implications. (2) Understand the importance and application of ethical principles in AI development. (3) Acquire skills in ethical design and critical evaluation of AI systems. (4) Develop an awareness of the interface between technology, ethics and society.
Learning method
The course uses interactive learning and gamification elements to impart knowledge and raise sensitivity of the relevance, necessity and practical benefits of ethics. It follows a co-creative approach in which all participants are actively encouraged to make and reflect on ethical decisions in concrete development scenarios. The course allows participants to freely choose which episodes to work on and when. It is also possible and encouraged to move freely between episodes. This allows a highly personalised approach for a wide range of time availability and learning styles. The course consists of four episodes, each with a philosophical theme: Truth, Knowledge, Justice and Work.
