Agents of Change - Bringing Sustainability into Motion
Our everyday actions are often influenced by the behavior of those around us. But how many people does it take to motivate ourselves and others to act sustainably—for example, to keep our environment clean? Slip into the role of the alien “Observer” and explore people's littering behavior using a simulation lab. Can you apply this knowledge to inspire sustainable behavior in your own community?
Go to courseWhat to expect
How many people does it take to reduce litter on meadows and paths? In this course, you slip into the role of the alien “Observer.”
This alien has traveled to Earth on an urgent mission: his home planet, “Immundizia,” is in danger of suffocating under the weight of mountains of trash. Observer is supposed to observe from the outside how we humans dispose of trash in our environment.
Observing humans helps Observer better understand one of the causes of the littering problem on “Immundizia” – in particular, the connection between his own behavior and the behavior of others.
Learning objectives
- You will explore the “Agents of Change” simulation, designed to help sustainably address the littering problem, and gain the confidence to use it effectively.
- Taking on the role of a silent observer, you will conduct experiments in the simulation lab guided by clear, step-by-step instructions.
- You will design your own experiments to investigate compelling questions about preventing littering using the “Agents of Change” simulation.
- Finally, you will discover what it means to be an “Agent of Change” and learn how you can become one yourself.
Learning method
In the simulation lab, you have the opportunity to observe human behavior within a virtual environment. Clear, step-by-step instructions guide you through the simulation interface, helping you build essential skills commonly used by professional simulation researchers.
In the lecture hall section, you’ll discover fascinating insights into the “Agents of Change” simulation. You will learn what makes an “Agent of Change” truly impactful—and receive practical tips on how you can take small but meaningful steps to help prevent littering.
