Einfluss des Klimawandels

Weltweit ist Indien einer der höchsten Luftverschmutzungen ausgesetzt [5]. Diese Verschmutzung stammt hauptsächlich aus der Verbrennung von Kohle, Emissionen aus der Industrie, Fahrzeugen, Staub und anderen Formen der Umweltverschmutzung, wie z. B. der Müllverbrennung, die in Indien weit verbreitet ist [6].

Für 2016 ergab eine Studie der India State-Level Disease Burden Initiative, dass Luftverschmutzung nach Unterernährung die zweithäufigste Ursache für die Krankheitslast in Indien ist [7].

Im Jahr 2017 lag die bevölkerungsgewichtete mittlere Belastung durch Luftverschmutzung in Indien bei 89,9 μg/m³, für Delhi stieg der Wert auf 209 μg/m³.

Dies ist eine der höchsten Luftverschmutzungsbelastungen weltweit und führte 2017 zu 1,24 Millionen Todesfällen in Indien (Balakrishnan et al., 2019). Der von den National Ambient Air Quality Standards in Indien empfohlene Grenzwert liegt bei 40 μg/m³. Im Jahr 2017 waren 42,6 % der Bevölkerung einer mittleren Luftverschmutzung von mehr als 80 μg/m³ ausgesetzt, und 76,8 % waren Werten von mehr als 40 μg/m³ ausgesetzt. [6]
